SWOT

Strengths - Black Girl Ventures is led and founded by serial entrepreneur Omi Bell. A Black woman who has first-hand knowledge of how hard it is to get funding. The staff is trained to understand this same knowledge, and struggles of these owners. There are over 300 alumnae who have been through the pitch program. There is a huge need for this program, as there are over 3,000 community members who are looking for guidance, community, and funding for their businesses. BGVs branding is strong and there are strong partnerships such as Nike, the NBA, and more.
Opportunities - The opportunity lies in the fact that there are more Black and Brown women opening businesses at a higher rate than anyone else, especially since the pandemic. BGV offers personal development in-house with different thought leaders and encourages them to attend conferences or seminars inside and outside the company. The community is involved with sharing the application openings, coming back to tell their story, and linking up with other members of the community in partnerships. There are always businesses opening up, and ideas for business, the opportunity lays in helping each with white glove services so they in turn reach back and help another founder.
Weaknesses - Black Girl Ventures is not nationally known. Applications and RSVPs are still lacking in cities where BGV is new. There has not been a huge success in getting maximum exposure to a wide network of entrepreneurs who need the services that BGV offers.
Threat- VC is a white male-dominated industry, as well as many of the investors. Getting them to see the purpose of investing in Black and Brown women founders can be a problem. In-person events are continuously threatened by Covid and other looming pandemics. Inflation costs and a possible recession threaten all who are currently able to donate to the founders and their organizations. And if Black entrepreneurship numbers ever drop, this will be a threat to BGVs existence.
