Canva - is it a good asset to PR and branding?

In this post I am going to review the app/site Canva (www.canva.com), which you can use on your web browser or an app on your mobile device. The positive is that everything you can do on your computer, you can do on your mobile device. On this app you can create or design assets for social, branding, photos, icons, print products, apps integration and you can use it alone or as part of a team.

Price Points

There are several different price points for Canva. There is the free version (which Canva is free for classrooms and nonprofits) which gives you 250,000+ free templates, 100+ design types (social media posts, presentations, letters and more), thousands of free photos and graphics, invite members to your team, collaborate and comment in real-time and 5gb of cloud storage. The free version is always free.

It also goes on how many you have on your team the best value. Here is the price point chart for a team of 0-5.

The Best and Worst About the App

The transferability to go between devices seamless makes this app one of the best design apps for the PR professional. You can go from your desktop, to your tablet, to your cellphone and back to your desktop and will never have to double do work, saving designers time.

You can also do brand kits so you do not have to continue to look up brand guidelines. It will remember them for you.

The worst - and there aren't many. You can create anything on here. The only thing is, you must download it to whatever device you're using to post or share the content. So you want to make sure you have plenty of space or a cloud account to add them to.

Mobile vs. Desktop

Of course with most design apps its always a bit easier on a desktop than on a mobile device. But you can get a sharable link to get it to others quicker.

This photo from my mobile device, shows that it's a simple integration from mobile to those you want to share with.

It's a bit weird to design on your mobile device, because not all screens are the right size to see all the different parts of the app. If its something simple. a phone can handle it, but the more intricate the design is, I recommend a tablet or a desktop computer.

So, is it worth it? Yes. I personally use the pro version for $12/month but test out the free version and see if this app is for you. Let me know what you think.
